How do you register or change your address in Sweden in 2026?

Skatteverket requires a written move notification when your dwelling changes. Use the free Flyttanmälan e-service with BankID (Swedish bank e-identification) or another accepted Swedish e-ID. Finish Set up Bankid if you want the digital path. Without e-ID, complete form SKV 7845 (Notification – moving within Sweden), sign it, and post it to Skatteverket’s scanning centre.

Report before move-in or no later than one week after. On-time filings make the new address valid from the day you move in. Late filings take effect from the day Skatteverket receives the notice, so tax and school systems can lag your real life. Include every child who moves with you. A complete online case can update the register within minutes once the move date has passed; cases that need an administrator are often queued for about two weeks before assignment.

Skatteverket then shares the new address with most authorities. You still check Mina sidor so the register matches the flat you sleep in.

For apartments, enter the national four-digit lägenhetsnummer, not the landlord’s objektsnummer from the rent system. The correct code appears on the lease, door, lobby board, or mailbox, or from the property owner or bostadsrättsförening (housing cooperative). Wrong unit numbers send Skatteverket letters to the wrong door even when the street and postcode look fine.

Your kommun (municipality) of folkbokföring is the tax municipality for ordinary municipal income tax and a routing key for many benefits.
