Brazil opens online VITEM XIV visas for visa-exempt passports
From 1 September 2026, many nationals who do not need a Brazilian visitor visa can file the VITEM XIV digital nomad visa online and get the approval by email. Income and savings floors stay the same.

Brazil changed how many people apply for the VITEM XIV digital nomad visa. From 1 September 2026, nationals who do not need a Brazilian visitor visa can often file temporary visas electronically through the Integrated Consular System (SCI).
The money tests did not jump. You still need remote work for employers or clients outside Brazil. This is a news summary, not legal advice.
Brazil opens online VITEM XIV filing
- The start date is 1 September 2026. Brazilian MFA posts say temporary visas for visitor-visa-exempt nationals move to electronic issuance from that day.
- You upload the file in SCI. Supporting papers go into the online system. Approved visas are sent to the email on the form.
- You usually do not send your passport. Electronic files skip the old physical-passport drop-off for that channel.
- Some posts still ask for a signed receipt by email. Follow the checklist on the Brazilian consulate that covers where you live.
- Income stays about USD 1,500 a month, or about USD 18,000 in available funds, under the usual remote-work norms.
Who still goes to the consulate
- If your nationality still needs a Brazilian visitor visa, you must book an in-person consular interview.
- Local Brazilian jobs still do not fit this visa.
- After you enter Brazil, Federal Police registration and the CRNM card steps still apply.
Remote workers watching this
- People with EU, UK, US, Japan, Mexico, and other visitor-visa-exempt passports who want a Brazil base.
- Remote employees and freelancers comparing Brazil with Portugal or Mexico.
- Applicants who delayed filing because they did not want to mail a passport.
Before you file
- Check whether your nationality is visitor-visa exempt for Brazil.
- Read our Brazil VITEM XIV page for income, savings, and post-arrival steps.
- Open your Brazilian consulate’s live VITEM XIV notice and the SCI form before you apostille papers.
