For permanent residence, long-term resident status, and many nationality routes, AIMA and Justiça guidance point to basic Portuguese knowledge. CAPLE's CIPLE exam certifies A2. PLA (Português Língua de Acolhimento) courses certify A1+A2 and B1+B2 blocks; AIMA states that an A2 or higher PLA certificate can prove language for permanent residence, long-term status, and nationality when the other conditions fit. Higher CAPLE levels serve different goals. DEPLE is B1, DIPLE is B2, DAPLE is C1, and DUPLE is C2. Portuguese-taught higher education and some employers may ask for B2-level proof rather than a citizenship A2 paper.
