Should you live in Busan or Daegu in 2026?

Busan's strength is maritime. Shipping, freight, trade finance, logistics, film, tourism and education cluster around the port, Gimhae International Airport and eastern coastal districts. The wider Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam network adds shipbuilding and advanced manufacturing links. A general corporate career still has fewer fallback employers than in Seoul, but port-facing roles are genuinely local.

Daegu concentrates machinery, metalworking, automotive components, robotics, textiles and medical devices, plus universities and major hospitals. Living in Daegu is most convincing when one of those sectors already employs you. English may work in selected labs or international teams, yet Korean dominates most hiring; read English in South Korea before a partner commits to a Daegu search.

Busan brings milder winters than Seoul, stronger humidity, wind and heavy rain with greater typhoon exposure. Mountains and bridges split neighbourhoods, so Haeundae, Seomyeon and western port districts feel like different cities. Beach access is real daily life, not only a holiday photo.

Daegu's basin traps summer heat. Cooling, window direction and the walk from metro to home matter as much as rent. Winters run cold and dry, with seasonal air concerns tracked on AirKorea. Neither city is uniformly quiet; inspect the building, not the regional reputation.
