Daegu costs less than Seoul when the home, workplace, and summer cooling plan match. KRW means South Korean won. A manufacturing engineer near the metro, a Suseong family renter, and a student on a small wolse contract need different budgets. Put the gap next to Seoul cost of living and living in Daegu before you move.
What housing budget works in Daegu?
Use the Ministry of Land transaction portal to filter reported deposit and rent pairs. Checked July 2026, many Daegu studios and compact one-bedrooms can be tested around KRW 300,000-900,000 monthly, with larger or newer Suseong homes above that band. Deposits commonly run from several million to tens of millions of won. These are rounded planning bands, not official averages.
Suseong-gu often carries school, hospital, and residential premiums. Jung-gu and near Dongdaegu Station trade convenience for noise and transfer traffic. Dalseo, Buk-gu, and outer corridors can cost less when the workplace route works. Daegu rentals use wolse (monthly rent plus deposit) and jeonse (a large-deposit lease with little or no monthly rent). Keep the deposit separate from broker fees, furniture, and building management charges: how to rent.
What do transport, heat, and food add?
Daegu Metro and buses cover much of ordinary commuting. KTX and express services through Dongdaegu connect to Seoul and Busan when work or family travel matters. A car is unnecessary for many central routines and expensive once parking and insurance appear: utilities, internet, and transport.
Basin summer heat is a real bill. Weak insulation and west-facing glass raise electricity when inland highs peak: summer heat. Ask for recent summer statements rather than a flat utility estimate.
Local markets and Korean restaurants can keep food near the wider regional planning habit. Imported groceries, delivery, and café-heavy weeks need a separate allowance: groceries and eating out. NHIS contributions and ordinary co-payments belong in the monthly sheet: healthcare costs.
Common misconceptions
Daegu is not automatically “Busan prices without the sea.” Suseong and newer towers can still press rent, and heat can wipe out a low asking figure.
A lower monthly rent also does not mean a small deposit. Jeonse and large wolse deposits still dominate setup cash.
