What monthly budget do you need for Türkiye in 2026?

One adult can plan TRY 45,000-80,000 a month, a couple TRY 70,000-125,000, and a family of four TRY 100,000-180,000 before international-school tuition. TRY means Turkish lira, also written as TL. These are rounded planning ranges, not official averages. A modest Bursa or Eskişehir address can sit near the lower edge; a central Istanbul apartment can consume most of the solo band.

The assumptions matter. The solo plan uses a one-bedroom home, municipal transit, local groceries, several simple meals out and basic private medical cover. The couple shares housing and utilities. The family plan uses a larger home, two children, local or state education assumptions and more transport, but excludes international-school fees, a car loan, major private treatment and frequent international flights.

For one adult outside premium Istanbul districts, allow roughly TRY 20,000-40,000 for rent, TRY 1,000-4,000 for aidat (monthly building or compound charge), TRY 2,000-5,000 for electricity, water, gas and internet across the year, TRY 8,000-15,000 for groceries, and TRY 2,000-5,000 for transport. Seasonal heating or Antalya air conditioning can move the energy line beyond that range.

A couple can keep groceries around TRY 13,000-23,000 and local transport around TRY 3,000-8,000 if both use municipal networks. A family may need TRY 20,000-35,000 for food and TRY 5,000-12,000 for transit, school buses or occasional taxis. A site (managed residential compound) with a pool, security and central heating can carry much higher aidat than an ordinary apartment.

Health cover is not one fixed line. Basic residence-compliant private insurance can be inexpensive but narrow; broad outpatient, private-hospital and chronic-condition cover costs much more and varies by age. Obtain named-hospital quotes. For childcare or private school, insert the provider's written annual total divided by 12, including meals, bus, books, uniforms and registration.

The 19 July rent check put many central Istanbul asking rents around TRY 35,000-80,000, before aidat. Kadıköy, Beşiktaş and prestige compounds can exceed it. A cross-Bosphorus bargain may add Marmaray, ferry or metrobüs fares and childcare time. International schooling can add a separate six-figure monthly equivalent for multiple children, so no honest national family band can include it.

Move-in cash is separate. Plan for first rent, depozito (rental deposit), a possible emlakçı (real-estate agent) fee, utility abonelik (subscription) deposits, furniture and temporary accommodation. Keep at least two to four monthly spending totals available during setup, with more for an unfurnished Istanbul home.
