What monthly budget do you need for Dubai in 2026?

A single adult in a modest Dubai community such as JLT (Jumeirah Lake Towers), Discovery Gardens, or parts of International City can start around AED 8,000 to 14,000 a month all-in. That assumes controlled housing, home cooking, RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) travel with a nol card or light Careem use, basic DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) bills, mobile and internet with Etisalat or du, and moderate leisure. It does not include heavy debt repayment or frequent international flights.

A single adult living a Marina, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, or JBR lifestyle often needs AED 12,000 to 20,000 or more. The jump is usually rent and social spending, not a different price for rice. Sharing a flat can pull the lower band down; a one-bedroom facing the water can push the upper band higher.

A couple can use AED 15,000 to 28,000 as a broad starting band when sharing one home and major bills. Two cars, a Marina lease, frequent dining out, or private school deposits for a child move it higher quickly.

A family with school fees should plan AED 25,000 to 45,000 or more. International school tuition can dominate the sheet more than groceries or metro fares. Public options and fee levels vary by status and school, so treat any family band as incomplete until you have a written school quote and bus fee.

Families should price the school run with the lease. A cheaper villa in a distant community can require a second car, more Salik (Dubai road tolls), and longer childcare hours.

Monthly planning should include DEWA electricity and water, district cooling or chiller fees in some towers, Etisalat or du home fibre and mobile, RTA fares or fuel, Salik, parking, insurance, VAT (value-added tax) already baked into many prices, household replacements, and private health excesses. Summer AC from roughly May through September can lift DEWA well above a mild winter bill.

Keep setup money separate. Agency fees, a security deposit often framed as a share of annual rent or one to two months depending on practice, temporary lodging, furniture, and Ejari (Dubai tenancy registration) costs can arrive before normal monthly spending begins. Many landlords still collect rent in annual or multi-cheque patterns even when monthly options exist.

Abu Dhabi can soften the housing line for comparable space, but rebuild the band with ADDC (Abu Dhabi Distribution Company) utility reality and your actual commute, not Dubai Marina assumptions.
