What is flood risk like in Türkiye in 2026?

Eastern and western Black Sea coastal towns sit where persistent or intense rain meets steep mountain fronts. Trabzon, Rize, Ordu, Giresun, Samsun and western Black Sea districts such as Kastamonu and Sinop can see water and debris move quickly through narrow valleys toward the coast. Slope drainage, retaining walls and the road below the plot matter as much as the rainfall total.

In Istanbul, flash flooding often follows urban creek corridors rather than the Bosphorus waterline.
