@HOME is a timed temporary stay, not an open-ended digital-nomad residency. The extension exists so you can finish a second season, not so you can quietly become a local employee.
How does the six-plus-six clock work?
Official FAQ language grants remote workers six months with eligibility for another six-month extension, capping the remote-worker category at one year. Hibernator stays are described as up to six months. Investor permits follow separate Guidelines Investors Permit rules and different fee circles. Each person files individually; family members twelve and older sign their own forms.
Start the extension while your first approval is still valid. Reassemble passport biodata, foreign-income or employer proof, medical insurance covering the new period, and Appendix D fee payment to the Ministry of Finance account named on the portal. Processing for first applications is often about two weeks when files are complete; do not assume a last-week upload will land before your stamp ends: Apply for a residence permit.
What does an extension not buy you?
You still cannot work for a Curaçao employer or sell into the local labour market. You still do not become a resident through remote-worker @HOME alone, so Kranshi and sedula usually stay closed: Register at Kranshi. Keep private health insurance continuous across both blocks.
If you need more than one year, or a local payroll job, switch to a Toelatingsorganisatie residence and work product instead of stacking tourist tricks after @HOME ends. Renew the lease and bank KYC against the new approval dates: How to rent a home and Open a bank account. Lifestyle pacing for remote desks sits in Work-life balance.
Common misconceptions
Assuming unlimited rolling extensions fails. Remote-worker @HOME tops out at one year under current FAQ rules.
Assuming the extension converts into a sedula also fails. Residence ID needs a different admission decision.
Summary
File one @HOME extension before the first six months end, keep insurance and foreign-income proof current, and treat the one-year cap as hard. Change to a full residence and work track if you need to stay or earn locally beyond that.
