France visitor income floor rises to €1,477.93 a month

France did not invent a new visitor visa. It raised the money floor that Service-Public shows for the temporary visitor residence card.

From 1 June 2026, the page lists €1,477.93 net per month for one person, or €17,735.19 per year. That tracks France’s mid-year SMIC update. This is a news summary, not legal advice.

The new income floor

• Solo adult: about €1,477.93 net each month for a full year.
• Year total: €17,735.19 on the Service-Public checklist.
• Why it moved: SMIC rose on 1 June 2026. Visitor means tests follow that net figure.
• Earlier 2026 files often used about €1,443 net. Plan on the higher number now.
• Consulates can still ask for more. Showing only the bare floor is risky.

Papers that still matter

• You still need health insurance for the whole stay.
• You still need housing proof.
• You still sign that you will not work in the French labour market.
• Remote pay from a foreign employer may fit visitor status only if the job has no French economic tie.
• After arrival you still validate a VLS-TS online and may later renew through ANEF.

Who should recalculate

• Retirees and savers who budgeted the January SMIC figure.
• Remote workers using visitor status with foreign pay.
• People renewing a visitor card who must show current means.
