The southwest monsoon from roughly May through October brings heavy rain in Thailand patterns that hit Lanta's west beaches hardest. Some restaurants, dive shops, and guesthouses close for weeks, and storm surf can make swimming unsafe. East-coast Old Town often feels more usable in those months, but west-coast renters should ask landlords what "open year-round" really means.

Lanta has clinics and a hospital for everyday needs, yet complex surgery, maternity specialties, or major trauma care often means Krabi Town or larger mainland centres. Remote earners and hospitality owners fit better than people who need local salaried work or international schools on the island.
