When does it rain in Taiwan in 2026?

The first big one is the mei-yu, the plum rains. This is a slow, often stalled front that usually arrives around May and June, bringing long grey stretches and heavy downpours before summer heat locks in. It affects the whole island but tends to hang over the north and the mountains.

The second is the typhoon window, roughly July to October. In a typical season Taiwan sees several tropical storms and typhoons rather than a fixed number, and even a storm that misses land can dump days of rain and shut down transport and offices when a typhoon day is called. The third driver is the northeast monsoon, which sends cool, damp drizzle onto northern Taiwan from about December to February. This is the split that decides a lot of moves.
