Does it rain a lot in Hungary in 2026?

According to the Hungarian Meteorological Service (OMSZ), precipitation decreases broadly from southwest toward northeast, with elevation adding rainfall on hills. The southwest and higher areas such as the Bükk collect more moisture. Contiguous Great Plain pockets along parts of the Tisza system are among the drier lowland zones.

Winter precipitation in the lowlands often falls as rain, sleet, or wet snow that turns to slush. Hills convert more of that moisture into lasting snowpack. Look at basement entrances below street level, courtyard drainage, garage ramps that slope toward the building, and any ground-floor flat beside a stream or low point. Ask whether cellar storage has flooded before and how water damage is handled in the building.
