How do you get a KITAS in Indonesia in 2026?

Everything starts with a sponsor. That can be an Indonesian employer, spouse, company, retirement agency, or another published category. The sponsor registers you through the Directorate General of Immigration channel, you receive a VITAS or e-visa approval, and you enter Indonesia within the validity window.

After arrival, convert the stay visa into the limited stay permit at the local immigration office. Many guides still treat about 30 days after entry as the hard conversion window. Biometrics, email delivery of the E-ITAS, and a multiple re-entry permit (MERP) often sit in the same post-arrival cycle. Keep passport validity ahead of renewals, and do not assume every online renewal story still works the same way in every year. In-person biometrics and immigration interviews can reappear in renewal cycles, so build calendar room around Jakarta or Denpasar office appointments.
