Where are the biggest expat communities in Hungary in 2026?

Budapest is the national capital, the deepest labour market, and the strongest embassy and multinational magnet. Large communities come from jobs and long stays, not from weekend tourism around the Castle District. On the ground, the community spreads across districts rather than one labelled expat quarter.

Pest carries most of the density: District V for central convenience, VI and VII for nightlife-adjacent young professionals, XIII (Újlipótváros) for a more residential international mix, and IX for a mixed value story. Debrecen is usually the strongest second answer. Szeged works as a southern university hub with a walkable Belváros and strong student energy. It can feel international around campus without offering Budapest’s parallel professional calendars. Pécs and other regional cities still host foreigners, but social density drops.

In smaller places, the biggest foreign community may be your employer, campus, or one Facebook group rather than a whole city scene. That can still be enough if your job fits and your expectations are realistic. It is just a different answer from "biggest expat community."
