Argentina rentista income floor rises with new SMVM ladder

From 1 September 2026, Argentina’s minimum wage is ARS 383,800. Rentista applicants need 5× that, about ARS 1,919,000 a month, with more rises ahead.

Argentina raised the minimum wage that sets the rentista income floor from September 2026

Argentina did not rewrite the rentista visa rule. The rule is still five times the national minimum wage (SMVM). The wage number moved.

On 1 September 2026, Resolución 4/2026 set SMVM at ARS 383,800 a month. Five times that is about ARS 1,919,000. Migraciones still asks for asset income at that level. This is a news summary, not legal advice.

The new peso floor

  • Formula stayed the same. You need monthly rentista income of at least 5× SMVM. Official Migraciones pages still say that.
  • September 2026 SMVM is ARS 383,800. That puts the rentista floor near ARS 1,919,000 a month.
  • The ladder keeps climbing. The same resolution lifts SMVM each month through April 2027 (for example ARS 391,200 in October and ARS 437,000 in April).
  • USD is only a guide. Exchange rates move. We now plan around $1,400 for September, but pesos are what migration counts.
  • Each adult needs their own floor. Family files usually prove the 5× amount for each person applying.

What did not change

  • Income must come from assets, such as investments, rent, or company shares abroad.
  • Salary and freelance pay still do not fit this visa type.
  • Funds should enter Argentina through banks approved by the Central Bank.
  • You still start in RaDEX, then attend a migration appointment.
  • Temporary residence is still about one year, with renewal if you still qualify.

If you already started paperwork

  • People who budgeted to an older SMVM need a fresh peso calculation for the month they file.
  • Investors and landlords near the line should leave room for October and later steps.
  • Remote workers on salary still need a different visa. This update does not open rentista to wages.
