High-tax Western Europe is not the whole map. This list ranks every European country in our catalog by how tax-friendly the environment tends to be for someone relocating, not for a short city break.

Why the leaders rank here for tax friendliness

Lower flat rates and lighter personal tax stacks in parts of Eastern and Southeastern Europe lift this ranking for movers who care about take-home pay, even when wages and services differ from Western capitals.

  1. #1

A low flat personal income tax keeps more of each paycheck for residents who qualify, which is why Bulgaria leads our European tax-friendliness list.

  2. #2

Light personal tax pressure relative to Western Europe helps stretch remote or local income, provided your work access and banking plan are clear.

  3. #3

Competitive personal tax treatment for many earners supports Belgrade and Novi Sad movers who want a softer net-pay hit than in higher-tax EU peers.

  4. #4

Lower typical personal tax burdens than much of Western Europe help careful movers keep more monthly income, though local filing rules still need advice on the ground.

  5. #5

No personal income tax for many residents makes net pay highly attractive, even though living costs sit far above the rest of this leader group.

Rankings are based on our scoring model. Always verify visa and cost information with official sources before making relocation decisions.

How we calculate these rankings

We filter to European countries in our geographic model (Western, Southern, Northern, and Eastern Europe buckets, plus cross-listed peers such as Turkey), then sort by tax friendliness score, highest first. The order below is generated at build time from our latest editorial model.

What this does not measure: Your citizenship, treaty networks, or how you invoice clients. A high score does not replace professional tax advice, and Monaco-style outcomes still depend on residency rules.

Updates: Rankings refresh when we redeploy after underlying country data changes.
