The safe starting point is the domain, not a search advertisement. Vietnam's National Electronic Visa System is at evisa.gov.vn. An e-visa is an electronic entry visa issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security, and the government makes it available to citizens of all countries and territories, subject to the individual entry conditions.
What must you enter and upload?
Use your own current passport. Upload a clear image of its biographical data page and a separate recent 4 cm by 6 cm portrait facing forward, without glasses, as the official procedure specifies. Enter the name, passport number, nationality, sex, birth details, passport dates, proposed stay, Vietnam address, purpose, and other declarations exactly.
Choose single or multiple entry and select an approved international entry and exit point from the live portal. Vietnam added ports again through Resolution 389/2025, so use the current portal list rather than a copied travel-blog list. The law permits an e-visa for no more than 90 days, but the dates printed on the granted document control your actual permission.
After submission, save the electronic dossier code. Pay through the official portal gateway. On 19 July 2026, the Ministry of Public Security procedure states US$25 for single entry and US$50 for multiple entry, with no refund if the application is refused. The official decision period is three working days after the authority receives both the application and fee, but missing data, correction requests, weekends, or holidays can extend your real wait. Do not book around a promised approval date.
What should you check before travel?
Use the code to retrieve the result from the official system. Download the granted PDF and compare every character with the passport: full name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, validity dates, entry type, and permitted port information. Seek correction through the official contact route before travel if anything differs. Print a readable copy and keep the PDF offline.
Airline staff and Vietnamese border officers make separate document checks. Carry the same passport used in the application. Approval does not guarantee entry if the passport, traveller, purpose, or other conditions fail inspection. After reaching a hotel or home, the accommodation manager must make the separate tạm trú (temporary residence declaration) with the current ward or commune police.
Can you use the e-visa as a relocation permit?
No. The e-visa allows the approved entry and stay. It is not a work permit, a temporary residence card, or a general route for indefinite in-country extensions or category changes. Employment requires the employer-led labour process. A residence card requires an eligible work, investment, study, official, or family basis and sponsor. Plan the correct long-stay route before the e-visa expires rather than assuming immigration will convert it.
Avoid sites that copy government colours, sell "approval guarantees," or hide service charges. Check that payment and status retrieval remain on the official government domain. Never send a passport scan or application code to an unsolicited chat account.
Common misconceptions
All-nationality availability does not mean automatic approval or entry. A 90-day maximum also does not mean every application receives 90 days, multiple entry, or permission to use any border gate.
Summary
Apply only through the official portal with exact passport data, a compliant portrait, realistic dates, and a currently approved port. Save the code, verify the PDF before departure, and arrange separate work or residence permission if Vietnam is more than a visit.
