How do you set up Singpass in Singapore in 2026?

The official registration guide accepts a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or valid FIN holder aged at least 15. A FIN (Foreign Identification Number, the personal identifier assigned to eligible foreign pass holders) must already be active in the relevant Ministry of Manpower or Immigration & Checkpoints Authority record. A visitor with only a passport is not automatically eligible.

Start at singpass.gov.sg or the official Singpass app. Enter the identity details exactly as recorded. The service shows a registered postal code for a Singapore address or passport details for an overseas-registered address. A newly issued or corrected pass record may take time to flow into connected services, so confirm the source record instead of creating a different spelling or repeatedly guessing.

The July 2026 guide uses Face Verification, a camera check against the government's identity record, for online registration. You then set a strong password and confirm the contact channel offered for your record. For a local registered address, a Singapore-registered mobile number is mandatory. For an overseas-registered address, an email address can be used without a local number.

Only a Singapore-registered mobile number can activate SMS 2FA (two-factor authentication, a second identity check after the password). The overseas email route therefore does not make SMS 2FA available. The current official guide does not promise every applicant a mailed activation code when Face Verification is unavailable; use the Singpass help channel or an official service centre for the route offered to your record.

Install the Singpass app from its official store listing. Sign in, complete the requested verification, set a six-digit app passcode and enable phone biometrics if suitable. Before approving a QR login, read the service name and requested action on the consent screen.

Myinfo (Singpass service that shares verified government-held personal data with authorised services) can prefill approved government, tax, healthcare, bank and utility forms. It shares the fields shown on the consent screen at that moment. It does not guarantee that a bank, insurer or utility will approve an application, and changed government data can take about one to two days to appear.

Use the official reset page if you forget the password. Current recovery supports Face Verification or SMS 2FA where that second method is already available. Keep your own email and phone current. Singpass never sends login links or QR codes through SMS, WhatsApp or Telegram, and it never needs your password or 2FA code.

When a FIN-linked pass expires or is cancelled, Singpass access currently remains for three months. Myinfo then returns only limited pass fields rather than presenting an old pass as valid. Before departure, update the registered address and recovery contact through the proper source systems. Singpass access does not preserve immigration status.
