There is no runway in the republic. The landing airport for a move to San Marino is Federico Fellini International Airport, in the Miramare hamlet on Via Flaminia, about 8 kilometres south of Rimini's historic centre. The airport's own page also calls the road from San Marino the national road 72. Your first address is therefore an Italian terminal, not a Sammarinese one.
What is the public path from the terminal?
Start Romagna bus line 9 links the airport with Rimini. The airport says the stop is outside the Departures main door. That ride gets you to the city, not onto Mount Titano. From Rimini you change to the coach run all year, every day, by Bonelli Bus with F.lli Benedettini. The published fare table lists €7 from Rimini to the San Marino stop, €6 to Borgo Maggiore, and €4.50 to Dogana. Tickets are sold online, at authorised offices, or from the driver if space remains. The ticket is valid only for that day, time, and trip. Purchase guarantees the ride, not a seat. Standing is allowed.
Check the live Bonelli sheet before a late flight. Seasonal timetables thin out in the evening, and a coach that has already left Rimini station does not wait at the airport. Daytime life without a car, including AASS buses and the Funivia, is a different question: living in San Marino without a car.
When should you book a car instead?
The taxi rank is outside Arrivals, not at the Departures bus stop. The airport says a taxi to Rimini city centre takes about 15 minutes and points to Radio Taxi Rimini on +39 0541 50020. That quote is the coastal city, not Dogana, Serravalle, or the walled centre. A driver who has only "San Marino" on a slip can still stop at the wrong castello.
Use the two-bus path when you land in time for line 9 and a Bonelli departure, with bags you can lift onto a coach that may make you stand. Book a car when the flight is late, the coach sheet has already ended, or the lease is on a slope the Rimini stop does not serve. If a late Federico Fellini arrival would miss the Rimini coach, a pre-booked airport pickup to San Marino meets you at Arrivals with the castello named in advance.
Tell the driver the castello from where to live in San Marino. Dogana and Serravalle sit on the flatter approach from Italy. Borgo Maggiore and the historic centre add the climb. A Rimini hotel pin is not a Titano address.
What should you not mix into the transfer?
Residence paperwork starts after you have an address, not at the kerb. The permit steps are on applying for a residence permit, and the folder you carry is on paperwork after moving. Do not spend the taxi ride hunting a same-day lease. Short stays still need a named drop-off: how to rent.
AASS buses move you between castelli once you are inside the republic. They do not collect you at Federico Fellini. Plan the Italian leg first.
Common misconceptions
One misconception is that San Marino has its own international terminal. The sign on the airport includes San Marino in the name. The building is in Miramare, in the province of Rimini.
Another is that the Bonelli coach starts at the terminal door. The fare table runs from Rimini stops such as the railway station. You still need line 9, or a car, to leave the airport.
Summary
Land at Federico Fellini, then either connect line 9 to the Bonelli coach or leave Arrivals in a car that already names the castello.
Budget €7 for the Rimini to San Marino coach when the timetable matches the flight, and do not treat that ticket as a reserved seat.
