How do you get a TRN in Jamaica in 2026?

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) issues the TRN. It replaced older separate tax reference numbers and now sits behind driving-licence administration and everyday KYC. You do not need Jamaican citizenship to apply. You do need a clean identity trail: full name, date of birth, photo ID, and matching signatures. If you plan to open a bank account, start the TRN before you book the branch appointment.

In Jamaica, complete the individual TRN application on the TAJ site or on paper, then take it with identification to the Taxpayer Registration Centre or a Collectorate. Acceptable ID usually includes a passport or driver’s licence. Marriage certificates or deed polls matter when names differ.

From overseas, TAJ allows a web application followed by a printed, signed form mailed with a notarised passport or licence copy, or a fully completed mailed pack. Online submission alone is not finished until supporting documents arrive. Cards for mail applicants go to the address on the form. Authorising someone in Kingston to collect needs a proper authorisation letter. Keep copies of everything you send.

Immigration status still matters for what you do after the TRN arrives. A TRN does not replace a PICA stamp, extension, or permanent residence file.

Store the card securely. Treat the nine digits like a tax ID, not a public social-media bio. If TAJ asks for translations of non-English identity papers, finish that before you requeue.
