Paraguay changed how you prove you can live there. New permanent residence files from 6 July 2026 must show real income. The official notice does not set a dollar minimum.

We used to plan around about $700 a month or $5,000 in savings. Those figures are off this page now. This is not legal advice.

What the 6 July rule asks

  • The start date is 6 July 2026. Migraciones said Resolution DNM 407/2026 covers files submitted from that day.
  • One income rule for two routes. National migration law and the MERCOSUR residence agreement now share the same proof standard.
  • You pick one of 12 categories. The list includes employees, retirees, property owners, and remote workers. Each category has its own papers.
  • A job title is not enough. You must show real income and that you actually do the work you declare.
  • The card looks different. Your profession is no longer printed on the admission card. Migration still stores it in its system.

Papers that still matter

  • Police certificates and civil papers still need stamps and Spanish translations.
  • Fees and appointments still depend on your route. Check the live checklist.
  • You still choose MERCOSUR, a temporary-stay upgrade, or the investor route before you file.

If you file after that date

  • People upgrading from temporary stay need papers that match the work they already declared.
  • Remote workers can use that category. They still have to show the income is real.
  • Files submitted before 6 July 2026 are not what this notice describes. Ask the office if yours is already in.

Before you file

  1. Read the Paraguay permanent residence page for the category list we store.
  2. Open the Migraciones notice and the checklist for your route.
  3. Compare Paraguay with Argentina or Uruguay if the income papers look heavy.

We will update this note if Migraciones publishes a dollar figure later.
