Thailand internet speed score raised after Thaicom Amazon Leo satellite deal
We raised Thailand's internet speed rating by 0.8 points to 7.8/10 after Thaicom partnered with Amazon Leo to bring high-speed LEO satellite broadband to rural and underserved areas nationwide.
We raised Thailand's internet speed score from 7.0 to 7.8 on Country To Live. Thaicom signed on as Amazon Leo's authorized distributor and landing rights holder in Thailand, with a focus on fast LEO satellite broadband for areas that fiber and mobile still miss.
This is a data call for people comparing countries on our site. Service is still rolling out, and Bangkok is not the same story as a remote island or mountain village.

Why we changed the score
- A major LEO deal landed in Thailand. The Fast Mode reported that Thaicom subsidiary TC 142 signed with Amazon Leo to distribute high-speed satellite internet across the country.
- Rural and remote coverage is the hook. Thaicom plans to reach customers, communities, and businesses beyond existing networks, with Amazon Leo targeting regional, rural, and remote Thai areas where broadband has been unreliable.
- The constellation is scaling. Amazon Leo had more than 200 satellites in orbit when the deal was announced, with ongoing launches and ground antenna rollout ahead of wider service.
- Urban Thailand was already workable for many nomads. Bangkok and Chiang Mai already had decent fiber and mobile options. This update reflects a stronger national ceiling once satellite backhaul fills gaps outside major metros.
- Other Thailand scores are unchanged for now. Cost of living, safety, climate, and residency scores on the Thailand country page still reflect longer-term relocation factors.
What the number means on our site
Internet speed on Country To Live measures usable, stable connectivity for work and daily life, not a single speed-test headline in one cafe. A 7.8/10 keeps Thailand in a strong band for remote workers, with more upside if Leo service delivers in practice outside city centers.

Before you plan a move
- Test the exact neighborhood before you sign a lease. Island and rural speeds still vary block by block until satellite options are live where you plan to stay.
- Ask whether your visa type allows long-term remote work. Better internet does not fix permit rules on its own.
- Keep a backup SIM or coworking option for the first month while you confirm real-world speeds at your address.
We will update again if Amazon Leo service scales nationally and independent connectivity data shows sustained gains outside Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
