Italy climate score restored after late-summer review of the July fire weeks

We raised Italy's climate score from 8.3 to 8.8 on Country To Live. In late August 2026 we reviewed the July Sicily wildfire and fourth-heatwave cut. Brief late-summer spikes still appear in the centre and south, but forecasters describe them as short pulses rather than a rewrite of Italy's full year, according to Il Sole 24 Ore weather coverage.

Why we changed the score

• The July cut tracked fire plus stacked heatwaves. Sicily blazes and red health alerts were a real living shock for that stretch of summer.
• Late-August heat looks short-lived. Forecast notes point to intense days that ease within a weekend, while the north stays cooler and unsettled.
• Year-round climate is wider than one fire month. Coastal and highland months still carry Italy's milder seasons for full-time living.
• We restored the full 0.5. Italy returns to 8.8/10. Other Italy scores stay put this round.
