How to apply for Kazakhstan Digital Nomad Residency

Foreign IT specialists can ask for permanent residence in Astana or Almaty. Astana Hub reviews your record first. There is no published monthly dollar floor.

Before you start

  • You work in IT

The pilot is for information and communication specialists. A general remote job with no IT record is a different visa.

  • Astana or Almaty only

You file the residence step in those two cities. Other cities are outside this pilot.

A first approval lasts 30 days. The preliminary decision can take up to 45 days.

The pilot runs from 26 May 2026 through 31 December 2026. This is not the one-year Neo Nomad visa.

Astana Hub can support your file. The migration service and the digital-development ministry still decide.

  1. 1

Check that your work is IT

Match your role to software, product, data, AI, or a similar technology job before you start.

  2. 2

Get an IIN and a digital signature

The online form needs a Kazakhstan ID number (IIN) and an electronic signature.

  3. 3

    Build the skills file

Use a passport valid for more than 180 days, plus a CV, portfolio, motivation letter, photo, and a police certificate.

  4. 4

    Apply on Astana Hub

Submit on astanahub.com for a ministry petition. That petition is not the residence permit.

  5. 5

    Take the video interview

After the first screen, expect a video interview. The ministry signs the skills decision.

  6. 6

    Ask for a preliminary approval

After the petition, file on the e-government portal. The preliminary decision can take up to 45 days.

  7. 7

    Arrive within 30 days

Enter Kazakhstan and contact migration in that window. If you miss it, you wait one year.

  8. 8

Do the medical check and fingerprints

Finish both after you land, before the public service center step.

  9. 9

    Sign a notarized housing contract

The contract must cover at least 180 days.

  10. 10

File at a public service center

Apply in Astana or Almaty for the permanent residence permission and the residence card.

This is general information, not legal advice. The pilot, forms, and dates can change. Confirm the live Astana Hub checklist and the migration rules before you apply.
