In Oslo, midwinter afternoons go dark early. Many movers find the light harder than a single cold night. Build indoor routines early: gym, swimming hall, clubs, or fixed café habits. Tromsø adds polar night, so light therapy, social anchors, and outdoor plans timed to twilight matter even more.

Heating and insulation are non-negotiable. Ask about windows, radiator or district heating performance, entrance halls that stay cold, and whether the flat traps damp on the west coast. Thin clothing indoors is not a safe assumption in every building.

Ice and snow change commuting. Cleared sidewalks vary by municipality and courtyard. Winter tyres are part of driving culture when roads hold snow and ice. Waterproof boots with grip beat fashion shoes from November through March in Oslo and farther north.

Outdoor life continues with proper gear. Friluftsliv culture treats cold and wet as reasons to dress well, not stay inside forever, but storm days still call for indoor cosiness.
