A concert week in Greece is not the same decision as a late bar crawl or a summer festival street. Club doors and after-midnight trains sit on nightlife in Greece. Island and city festivals sit on festival culture. This page is the ticketed room: which hall, which city, and what changes when summer moves the programme outdoors.
Which city actually has the rooms?
Athens is the dense classical and mid-size calendar. Megaron the Athens Concert Hall on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue is the main indoor house. Its Christos Lambrakis Hall seats 1,960 in fixed theatre layout (1,100 in the stalls and 860 in the circle), which is why sold-out orchestral nights feel like a logistics problem, not a vibe problem. People comparing flats still read living in Athens next to the venue list, because a Megaron night and a Gazi club night are different metro endings.
Summer rewrites the map. The Athens and Epidaurus Festival puts large outdoor programmes at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus below the Acropolis, and open-air stages such as Lycabettus take international acts that would not fit a winter club. Those nights are weather and transport decisions as much as music decisions.
Thessaloniki keeps a separate circuit. The Thessaloniki Concert Hall anchors orchestral and large staged work by the sea, while rooms such as Mylos and other mid-size stages cover rock, jazz, and local bills. A lease there is a different music week from Athens: living in Thessaloniki.
How do tickets and the week actually work?
Buy the hall, not a vague "Greece concert." Megaron sells through its own desk and online shop, including Friends pre-sales for major seasons. Club and indie rooms usually sell on the venue site or local promoters. A sold-out Athens midweek room does not mean the Thessaloniki hall that week is also gone.
Museum mornings and concert nights are different queues. If you want a timed ticket for a museum morning that sits beside a Megaron or Odeon date, book museum and city-experience tickets before a holiday weekend takes the slot.
Late shows still depend on the city's night transport, which the nightlife page already maps. An Athens outdoor concert that ends after the last useful metro is a taxi or hotel decision, not a playlist decision. Making a weekly room your social life is closer to making friends in Greece and ordinary social life than to collecting festival weekends.
What changes if you only follow summer?
Assuming winter Megaron programmes describe the whole year fails. From roughly June through early autumn, the outdoor festival calendar and hillside stages take the spotlight, while many indoor rooms thin out or shift later. If your lease trial is August only, you are sampling the open-air season, not the September-to-May desk.
Café and dinner timing also bends around show start times. A long café and dining table before an 21:00 Megaron curtain is normal; the same table before a 01:00 club door is a different night.
Common misconceptions
One misconception is that Greek live music means bouzouki tavernas only. Megaron's 1,960-seat hall, Thessaloniki's concert house, and summer Odeon programmes are separate calendars. They do not share one door policy.
Another is that a festival week is the concert scene. Street festivals rewrite the neighbourhood. They do not sell you a seat in the Christos Lambrakis Hall or a Thessaloniki orchestral night.
Summary
Pick the city room first: Athens Megaron and summer Odeon nights, or a Thessaloniki hall week that matches the lease.
Buy that room's ticket, and treat museum mornings and late transport as part of the same plan, not as extras you invent after the curtain call.
