Which digital nomad routes renew or extend without forcing you to leave, and which publish an exit or re-file gap?

Findings

Rules split hard. Malta and Cyprus publish multi-year renewal paths from inside the country. Hungary allows one in-country White Card extension to a two-year total. Estonia and Japan say no renewal or extension, with published re-entry waits. Croatia caps digital-nomad stay at eighteen months and requires six months before a new digital-nomad filing after expiry.

We compared **branded digital nomad or remote-work products** where an official government page states what happens after the first grant: renewal, one-time extension, or a re-file / exit gap. Nine routes cleared that bar with a primary URL.

Each `value` is a short paraphrase of the published renewal or gap rule, not a full timeline for dependents or tax residence. Consulates can add checklist wording. Confirm the live page before you apply.

Excluded for this brief: routes whose official pages only state an initial validity with no renewal sentence we could cite cleanly.
